Tips to Maximize Your Sauna Session

  1. Do not use lotions or oils on your skin just prior to your sauna session, as they will inhibit sweating.

  2. Wait at least 1-2 hours after eating before you begin a sauna session so that you wll attain the best dotoxifcaton results.

  3. Drink plenty of water!  A good rule of thumb is to divide your body weight in two and drink that many ounces in water each day.  Drink plenty of spring water before, during, and after your session, at least 10 ounces during or after your session.

  4. Set the sauna temperature to 130 to begin the unit's warm-up.  when the sauna reaches 110 degrees, step in to be begin your session.

  5. Start slowly if you are just begnning to use a sauna - limit your first week to 30 minutes.  You can gradually work your way up to 60 minute sessions.

  6. It is normal if you find that you do not sweat much during the first few sessions, especially if you do not have a routine of cardio exercise.  As the body adjusts, sweating can increase dramatically and body temperature regulation becomes more effective.

  7. Wear lightweight clothing, just underwear or nothing at all.  More skin exposure is preferable.

  8. Bring two towels to place on the bench seat - one to sit on, one to wipe perspiration with.  You may want to place a hand towel under your feet also, as the wood should be protected from seat and body oil.

  9. Stretching your arms, legs and back during session will help your flexibility, as well as massaging tight muscles.

  10. Fat and cellulite deposits begin to melt at 101 degrees F.  Massaging fatty tissue during your session will help break down those areas into smaller clusters which can more easily be eliminated through the pores of your skin.  Your body temperature should not reach over 102 degrees.

  11. You may experience short-term fatigue, muscle pain, or headaches.  These are associated with eliminating toxins and are a positive sign that healing is occurring.

  12. When you finish your sauna session, it is important to relax and cool down while your body continues to perspire.  Rest for about 10 minutes, and if possible take a warm shower to scurb off toxins that have surfaced on your skin.  you may want to finish with cooler water to close the skin pores.
